US Thermal Solar Plant approved in California

Regulators for California on Wednesday approved a license for the nation’s first large-scale solar thermal power plant in two decades. See here for full details. For details of the project see here.

What is particularly interesting is that this is truly large scale, as it will require 2000+ acres to produce 250 megawatts, this land was previously farm land. So not sure if the opportunity cost of the lost land productivity has been factored into this or not. Regardless it is good to see that solar is being deployed at this scale, although it is a shame that more advanced technology has not being used that could enable electrical production at night..
